I Know Two Angels

Written by David Lyons

I met two angels sitting outside, praying for our city, state, government, and President Donald Trump. This was a day of joy and loss. My entire family had surrounded me as we all celebrated my mother going home to be with Jesus. It was an interesting day I had worn a black suit with a black tie and a white shirt. I had kept a straight face and also a smile for others that needed to see a smile. I had greeted each and every individual that had shown up with a handshake and a hug followed by them asking to me “How are you doing?”

On the outside I was strong and fierce ready to tackle this day, but on the inside I had no clue how to handle what was about to happen, except through prayer. Everyone had taken their seats. The ceremony started as I sounded the shofar over the entire crowd. After the ceremony had ended, 20 of us went to my mother’s favorite restaurant Golden Corral. I had made sure everyone was taken care of and settled in. I was being the backbone for the family, here were family and close friends who I consider my family, standing behind me each and every step of the way. I only remember one time during that day shedding tears as I put one hand on my brother and one hand on my grandmother as my best friend sang “Love Lifted Me”.

As we finished dinner and laughter had overridden sadness, the question was sprung upon me “Do you want to go downtown to worship and pray at the arena where Donald Trump will be at later in the year?” I had said these words, “I do not feel like it” and I remember a quick response, “You need to go. Let’s go!” So, I did as I was asked, and went along with another brother named Bishop Angelo. As Dean, Bishop Angelo, and I had been driving in the van with Mom’s ashes on my lap we began to pray and joke about how mom was going with us. On the outside I was ready to go, but on the inside, I did not feel like doing anything, even singing or praying. We arrived around 5: 00 P.M.

I looked out the window and I saw two women already there praying and singing to God. As we stepped out of the van wearing suits and ties the two ladies had joked and we all had a good laugh.  They had no idea what had happened on this day.  So, Dean proceeded to tell them we had just returned from a going away party for my mother. Immediately these two walked calmly towards me and introduced themselves to me with a handshake and a kind word and then a beautiful question followed, “May we pray for you?” I replied, “Yes. Please. Thank you!”  One woman was at my feet and the other woman laid hands on my head. As they began to pray, I felt God’s peace come over me like a thick blanket.  It was not just a 2 minute prayer. Before I realized it, they were already 10 minutes in.

I sat quietly on a stone block as Dean pulled out his guitar and began to sing to God’s Heart as these two women pulled out flags and began to pray and also sing to God’s Heart. I had never thought in a million years that I would know these two afterwards and that God had sent me two angels.  One is named Deborah and one is named Karen B. I have known these two women for two years and we have had lots of amazing Jesus parties together.  They have been with me through thick and thin and the ups and downs. They love as Christ loves. They pray as The Father directs them to pray. They carry Fire everywhere they go! They are walking mighty arks full of God’s mighty living power in them.

Now that I look back on that very day, as one family member was taken home, God has given me two more! They love everyone that they come in contact with. They are not afraid to pray anywhere and everywhere that they may be at that very time. They are not afraid to speak their voice and tell the truth.  They always know how to make a person laugh in any situation, and they also know how to listen and give Godly wisdom in any situation, at any given time.

They have so much to teach and I always enjoy hearing what God has put on their hearts to be taught to others. It is so very interesting that they were there for me on that very day, and that I have been there for them on two important days in their life. It is amazing how God works as long as I sit still and know that He is God. They are strong, bold, and full of no fear, unshakable faith. I am so very blessed to know these two angels from God in the city of Jacksonville, Florida.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
